WordPress, the Worlds Best CMS
WordPress, launched in 2003 as a simple website blog builder, (text editor to create posts of your thoughts, ideas and interests), has evolved into a comprehensive CMS, (Content Management System). After 19 years of Open Source development, WordPress software is now used on an estimated 43% of all world wide web (WWW) websites. It has risen to become the most popular CMS on the Internet. The software is very versatile due to the vast number of so called plug-ins, additional coded software, that increase the functionality and security of WordPress no end. This allows the user to create anything from a simple blog to a full online E-commerce shop. In between you can have a magazine style website, a business portal, a club/membership website and anything else in between. The options are endless.
World Wide Internet Market Share
And now, 19 years later, if you were to compare WordPress used on 43% of all websites on the WWW, with its competitors such as Joomla, Drupal, shopify, Wix and many others, all these other systems have less than 4% internet market share for CMS. Such has been the successful rise of WordPress as a CMS. These figures of course are estimates however, accurate figures can be obtained on the Built With website, but the percentage relationship is the telling story. WordPress is the king of CMS.
Why is WordPress so Good
You may well ask. Is it because there are thousands upon thousands of available themes? Is it because there are approximately 55,000 plugins, small programs that increase the functionality of WordPress? Is it because there are a huge number of Youtube videos detailing how to launch and run a WordPress website? Is it because the Woocommerce plugin will turn the blog/website into a fully functional E-commerce website? Or maybe its because it has Customizable Design, its SEO Friendly, it can be High Performance, Its responsive on all devices, It can have High Security, It can be managed from any device, it has Built in Themes, or maybe because its Open Source? I wouldn’t hazard a guess but all I can say is it is awesome.

The Latest Release of WordPress
After 19 years of evolution WordPress 6.0 “Arturo” was released on May 24, 2022. Named in honor of the Latin jazz musician Arturo O’Farrill, this new release brings more customization tools and numerous updates to make the site-building experience more intuitive. The new FSE (Full Site Editor) appeared in WordPress release 5.9. It has not yet arrived at the live website stage, in my opinion, but the new editing system is well on its way to challenging editing systems such as Elementor and Divi. As the development continues WordPress will end up as the de-facto Open Source website design program.
So, why would TAY IT use WordPress?
After read all the above it seems like the best choice for a CMS website. I have used Joomla, Drupal, and many other website development programs. I have also hand coded websites and I can tell you the reason for the rise in the bountiful number of WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) website design programs is simply due to the tedious and odorous task of hand coding programming languages. When they invented the wheel there was no going back. Its the same with WordPress. Its the de-facto software for website design in my view of course. I know local website design companies that wont use WordPress. Maybe they think its too difficult to manage? Maybe they think its insecure? Well I can tell you with the correct installation, correct security configuration and correct management WordPress is a machine.
